Melissa Fortner joined The Village at Orchard Ridge as its Executive Director in August 2015. Melissa brings 20 years of senior living experience, most recently as Vice President of Supportive Living for Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Va.
Delighted to join the National Lutheran family, specifically with The Village at Orchard Ridge, Melissa looks forward to being a part of the community’s success, as well as helping to develop more opportunities to connect Orchard Ridge services with those who wish to age well.
Melissa’s expertise is in designing and implementing operational and strategic plans, with a record of transforming institutional-style nursing models into resident-focused social models. She spearheaded the first Green House project in Virginia, which focuses on delivering care to seniors in a homelike atmosphere.
Melissa has a B.S. in Health Care Administration from East Tennessee State University and an M.B.A. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She is also a licensed Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) and a Certified Aging Services Professional (CASP.) A frequent conference speaker and presenter at LeadingAge and a guest lecturer at James Madison University, Melissa has also served as a board and committee member for community colleges, industry associations, and local Chambers of Commerce.
