Older adults are at a higher risk for falls, and when they do fall, it can come with serious complications. The CDC says that, while people 65+ are at a 25% greater risk of falling, those who fall once double their chances that it will happen again. The best way to keep yourself out of the latter group is to never enter the first, and luckily there are simple and effective methods for making your home safer to walk in.

In the video below, we’re joined by B.J. Custer, one of our directors of rehabilitation with National Lutheran Communities & Services serving residents of The Village at Orchard Ridge. He walks us through the areas of the home that pose the greatest risk of falls, as well as the best tools to mitigate that risk.
