Orchard Ridge residents Carole Bartley, Carol McCoy, Marian Prevost and Gene Burkhart volunteer at the Highland Food Pantry’s (HFP) Senior Project. Jane Wilmer is a substitute when one of the regulars is absent. Gathering at the HFP on the first and third Mondays of every month, the ladies fill bags with essential food items that are delivered to various groups of community seniors. Funded by a special grant, these bags include some basic necessities and comfort items that are designed to “tide them over” through any shortfall in their regular food budgets. 

Gene, along with his longtime, non-resident friend Ed Froehlich, delivers these bags to Winchester House on Cameron Street every third Tuesday. These dedicated residents volunteer throughout the entire year, no matter what the weather. Other community groups volunteer on other days.
