The Village at Orchard Ridge Holds Ceremonial Leash Cutting for a New Dog Park

July 17, 2019

Through the very generous support of the residents of The Village at Orchard Ridge–A National Lutheran Community, dog owners and dog lovers alike can now share in the use of the brand new Orchard Ridge Dog Park. Residents participated in supporting a fundraising campaign to pay for the park with a themed dog race where they were able to support their favorite dog sled team by making gifts in honor throughout the six-week race. Dogs and dog sled teams had their photographs taken by resident Matt Baker and the photos were posted for viewing throughout the length of the race.

With a stated goal of $10,000 and led by David Newman and Ken Hill, the Dog Park Campaign raised $13,226. The Orchard Ridge Dog Park consists of 180 feet of aluminum fencing with 4 foot high railing, puppy pickets surrounding the bottom and two single gates. The dog park is located between the Woodside apartments and Orchard Woods Health Center. Funds raised also purchased a bench located within the park.

On Friday, July 12, the Orchard Ridge community shared in the official leash cutting celebration for the opening. With a blessing of the dogs by Chaplain Linda Wenger, remarks by Executive Director, Melissa Fortner, and more than 20 residents in attendance, the Orchard Ridge Dog Park was officially opened. David Newman took away the prize as the winner of the dog race, and residents in attendance shared dog shaped cookies while the dogs received their own bags of dog treats.
