National Lutheran Lends a Helping Hand on ELCA Day of Service

September 16, 2016

National Lutheran Communities & Services’ (NLCS) employees dedicated their time and effort on September 8 and 9 at their communities in support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s (ELCA) Day of Service. The ELCA Day of Service, observed on September 11, is recognized as "God's Work, Our Hands." Organizations and congregations are invited to reach out into their communities to serve those in need and to share God's compassion with the world.

Twenty NLCS employees took this opportunity to serve residents at The Village at Rockville—A National Lutheran Community in Rockville, Md. and The Village at Orchard Ridge—A National Lutheran Community in Winchester, Va. NLCS employees engaged with residents at each community and lent a helping hand wherever it was needed. At The Village at Rockville, employees assisted residents with group exercise, flower watering and transportation to various activities. While at The Village at Orchard Ridge, the day was filled with serving coffee, conducting a scavenger hunt and arranging flowers for the Assisted Living Memory Care Neighborhood. These were just a few of the activities that employees participated in as they engaged in “A Day in the Life” with residents.

These dedicated days of service were a wonderful reminder of the importance of NLCS’ mission and ministry and allowed employees to interact and connect with residents, who often do not have that opportunity.
