The Village at Orchard Ridge Announces Construction Milestones

December 1, 2015

WINCHESTER, Va. - Five months after holding its groundbreaking, The Village at Orchard Ridge, A National Lutheran Community, announced today that significant construction milestones have been achieved at the new Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). Footings, foundations and basement walls are in place for several of the community’s buildings.

“Building a community––from the physical, spiritual and philosophical aspect––takes a lot of hard work and dedication,” states John Midolo, Executive Director of The Village at Orchard Ridge. “And even though The Village at Orchard Ridge is still in its construction phase, we are very excited to the see the fruits of everyone’s labor coming forth and witnessing the progress that has been made so far."

To date, the construction crews of Howard Shockey & Sons have completed footings for the commons area, sections of the apartment building and Chapel. Also, within the apartment building, concrete foundation walls have been erected, which will house the woodworking shop. Concrete foundations for the first 20 cottages have been poured, and masonry foundations have been set for 16 out of the 20. Additionally, concrete slabs have been poured for six cottages, and wall paneling installation has begun on those cottages. Roads to each section of the community are also beginning to take shape.

Within Phase I, The Village of Orchard Ridge will offer 51 cottages, 127 apartments with home-based assisted living services, 18 memory support/assisted living residences, 10 private skilled nursing services residences, a community building including a library, cafe, dining rooms, and Chapel.

Situated around a “Village Green,” the cottage homes and apartments are being offered in a variety of floor plans specifically designed to meet each resident’s needs. Homes will feature easy, walkable access to all community amenities and common areas. On-site social, recreational and educational programming, local transportation and exquisite dining services will also be available for residents. The Village at Orchard Ridge is expected to open in 2013.
