Development Plans Filed for The Village at Providence Point

July 28, 2017

National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) filed development plans with the City of Annapolis on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 for its new continuing care retirement community (CCRC) The Village at Providence Point—A National Lutheran Community. The filing included a forest conservation plan, a subdivision plan and a special exception application with the City of Annapolis.

In January of 2017, NLCS announced its plans to pursue the CCRC as a standalone concept through the City’s special exception process, as it is no longer a part of the previous mixed-use development, known as Crystal Spring Annapolis. The Village at Providence Point will be located at the intersection of Forest Drive and Spa Road.

Beginning in January, and continuing throughout the spring, NLCS held numerous public informational meetings and met with individual groups of concerned citizens, along with seeking input from the Annapolis Environmental Commission.

“We believe this plan has taken into consideration the feedback given to us and presents a balanced and responsible option for development,” NLCS’ President & CEO Larry Bradshaw said.

The project unit totals are slated for 355 independent living apartments, 18 cottages, five duplexes and 48 health care suites.

“If you compare this to the previous mixed-used proposal, this is significantly smaller in scope,” Bradshaw said. “Through collaboration of all parties involved, we believe this proposal is an opportunity to meet the needs of seniors in Annapolis and the surrounding areas, while also balancing environmental concerns.”
